Revenue Secrets EPISODE #9

Revenue Secrets, when you didn’t just fall off the turnip truck, is a weekly article for #revenueclimber club members and other self-employed professionals.

Ideas make me happy.

Reading new books.

Talking to somebody creative.

Finding a new podcast.

But, ideas won’t put money in the bank.

Without them, nothing new happens but flitting around from one to another destroys the opportunity to profit from self-employment.

Trails of unfinished promising starts litter my office.

But, as I gain experience over the years this happens less.

The ideas keep coming.

So, I needed a formal system to manage them.

Creativity and new ideas are good things. No point stopping them. But taking action whenever I learn something new hurts rather than helps me.

My method to manage this evolved over the past year. It’s a well-oiled machine right now.

1) Add the idea to my list of opportunities, problems, and challenges

2) Review the market focus slide from the focused direction part of my market focus worksheet

3) Decide if this new idea should change my direction, as now I’ve written down a direction, which was never the case before

4) Rarely, does it make sense to change everything at the moment, but now the idea sits on the list for me to consider from time to time

5) Create a task to remind me to do something to explore the new idea, but don’t include it on my time blocks, which are reserved for actions that impact my focused direction

The approach that I designed to get there is called Market Focus, It’s hard but really simple.

1) Set S.M.A.R.T goals for the year

2) Identify my 3 most important problems, opportunities, or challenges

3) Create a focused direction for my money, time, and emotional energy

4) List the actions needed to execute successfully

5) Create time blocks and task lists for the most important activities

Everything else goes on a list for later.

Running my life this way changed everything.

I’m getting traction. Things get done. I can handle a lot without stress, working too much, or suffering from family issues caused by being overwhelmed with work.

When we launch the new Revenue Climber community platform in September market focus is one of the core digital courses. It will be talked about in our mastermind group as well.

I finished it yesterday. It’s great to build something that works, turn it into a course, and then share it with others.

How do you run your day?
